Knowledge Base Clients & properties Step 9 of 28

Add a client

Create the customer you invoice, with the contact details that end up on the invoice itself.

1 min read For company admin, manager, finance

A client is who you bill. One client can have hundreds of properties — a council, a landlord, a managing agent — or exactly one, if it's a homeowner.

Step by step

  1. Go to Clients in the sidebar.
  2. Add a new client and fill in:
    • Name — e.g. "Birmingham City Council". This prints on the invoice, so use their legal/trading name.
    • Email — where invoices and job notifications go.
    • Phone — the number to call about jobs.
    • Address — their billing address, which may be nothing like where the work happens.
  3. Save.

Keep the billing address and the work address separate in your head. The client's address is where the invoice goes; the property is where the engineer goes.

What the client record gives you

Open a client from the list and you get their properties and their full job history in one place — useful when someone rings up asking "what did you do for us last March?".

Shortcut

You can create a client from inside the job form. If you're mid-flow creating a job for a new customer, just type their name into the Client field and add them there.
