Post a progress update
Add a note to the job timeline — the permanent, timestamped record of what happened.
The timeline is the job's history. Every update is stamped with who wrote it and when, and it can't be changed afterwards.
Step by step
- Open the job.
- Scroll to Job progress.
- Click + Add update.
- Type into What's happening on this job? — what you did, what you found, what's blocking you.
- Click Post update.
Updates are append-only. They can't be edited or deleted, by anyone, ever. That's what makes the timeline hold up when a client disputes what was done. Write it like you'd want it read back to you.
What makes a good update
- Weak: "Started work."
- Strong: "Isolated water at the stopcock, removed old sink unit. Found rot in the base cabinet — photo attached. Need to price a replacement carcass before finishing."
The second one answers the question someone will ask in three weeks. The first doesn't.
Who can post
Anyone assigned to the job, plus managers and admins. If you're field staff and you can't see the button, you're probably not assigned — ask your manager to add you.
